Electrical Work on Spas

Note - to spa owners
In Australia, New Zealand and many countries around the world, all electrical work on spas, hot tubs and swimming pools (along with every other aspect of home electrical wiring and appliances) MUST be carried out by a properly qualified / licenced electrical tradesperson.
Failure to ensure work is carried out by such a person is illegal and dangerous.
Additionally we will not warrant any electrical component supplied unless proof of installation by a properly qualified person is supplied at the time of any warranty claim.
Electrical components supplied by Australian Spa Parts, that have evidence of installation, cannot be returned for credit or refund under any circumstance unless deemed to have had a warrantable failure.
It is your responsibility to ensure the service person carrying out electrical work is properly licenced and that they've correctly identified the problem component prior to purchasing.

Equipotential earth bonding
All conductive materials exceeding 100mm in any dimension that are permanently in contact with the ground and within 1.25m (zone 1) of the waters edge horizontally, must be bonded to earth by a licenced electrical contractor.
This includes but not limited to:
Reinforcing steel in a conrete spa shell
Reinforcing steel in a concrete slab under a portable spa
Metal pool or boudary fencing
Glass fencing spigots
Garden sheds
Bolted down umbrella's with conductive bases
Ladders fixed in position
Handrails fixed in position
Spa cover lifters fixed in position

This includes spa cover lifters / handrails with baseplates that slip underneath a spa sitting on a concrete slab/pavers.

If the conductive material is either not fixed or in permanent contact with the ground it does not require earth bonding. Examples of this are:
Spa cabinet mounted handrails
Spa cabinet mounted cover lifters
Spa steps with a metal frame - not permanently bolted down
Umbrella with a PVC base
